College Football Playoff Rankings week 3: ASU jumps up again

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona State moved up 3 spots to No. 6 in the College Football Playoff rankings this week. The Sun Devils are also up eight spots from the initial rankings two weeks ago.

"I think as this plays out you can see that the Pac-12 is sitting in pretty good shape right now," Arizona State head coach Todd Graham said Tuesday after practice.

The Sun Devils now sit just two spots out of the top four spots which will go to the Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl as part of the College Football Playoff semifinals. Notre Dame dropped from No. 10 to No. 18 with the loss to Arizona State.

Oregon is No. 2  after their win over Utah where they pulled away in the fourth quarter. The Utes dropped from No. 17 to No. 23 with the loss. Arizona rose from No. 19 to No. 14 with a victory over Colorado. UCLA also had one of the biggest leaps of the week from No. 22 to No. 11 with a win over Washington. It shows the committee has a lot of respect for the Pac-12

The selection committee, which meets every Monday and Tuesday to rank the top 25 teams, will release five more sets of rankings this season. The final selection of teams will be released on Dec. 7.
