Despite a late night overtime victory which many voters may not have seen, The Sun Devils landed at No. 11 in the AP poll this week, up from No. 15 last week.
Arizona State took care of business in a game many expected to be close with Zane Gonzalez hitting the game winner in overtime to give the Sun Devils a 19-16 victory.
Oregon stayed at No. 5 after taking care of Stanford at home 45-16. The Cardinal hung around until halftime until a Thomas Tyner 21-yard run to start the second half scoring for the Ducks put the game back within two scores and out of reach.
Arizona dropped to No. 21 after losing to UCLA 17-7 at the Rose Bowl. The Wildcats scored first early in the opening frame on a 14-yard pass from Anu Solomon to Cayleb Jones, but that would be all the offense they would be able to muster. The Bruins then took the reigns, scoring twice in the third quarter including a 70-yard touchdown pass from Brett Hundley to Jordan Payton to round out the scoring. The Bruins moved up to No. 18 with the victory.
Utah fell to No. 20 after their loss to Arizona State.
The Sun Devils will play No. 8 Notre Dame at home next Saturday afternoon after they beat Navy 49-39 in a game which was closer than many expected.
The College Football Playoff rankings will be re-released on Tuesday, Arizona State currently sits at No. 14. The top four teams from those rankings will move on to the College Football Playoff semifinal.
