Bracketology: ASU basketball nearly locks down tournament appearance with Stanford win

The Sun Devils have already hit the 20 win mark with three regular season games to play. How high has ASU risen in the projections?

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona State had a rough road trip to the Rocky Mountains, but a big win against Stanford on Wednesday further solidified the Sun Devils' resume for the NCAA Tournament.

The Sun Devils are a consensus NCAA Tournament team at this point. With three games left in the regular season against California and a tough road swing to the Oregon schools, there is still much to be accomplished. If Arizona State can win out, they will be in excellent shape for both the Pac-12 Tournament and for securing a coveted six seed in the big dance.

Here's the full ASU breakdown, with all information from CBS Sports:

Overall Record = 20-8

Pac-12 Record = 9-6 (3rd place, tied with three other teams)

Home Record = 15-1

Away Record = 4-5

Neutral Record = 1-2

Top 50 Record = 5-5

Top 100 Record: 7-7

RPI = 31

SOS = 41

Signature Wins (RPI 1-30) = Arizona (2), Colorado (27)

Quality Wins (RPI 31-100) = Oregon (32), Stanford (40), @ California (48), Marquette (72),  Utah (94) - ASU also has wins over teams ranked 103, 104 and 105, so this could continue to improve.

Bad Losses (RPI 101 or greater) = Miami (FL) (114)

The Sun Devils continue to rise in the bracket projections. In an intriguing plot twist, three of our bracketologists have ASU taking on Kansas State in an 8/9 game.

Jerry Palm from CBS Sports gave ASU an 8 seed and a first round matchup against the Kansas State Wildcats in the South. Winner faces the Florida Gators.

Joe Lunardi from ESPN has slotted the Devils into the 8 seed in the East, slated to compete against Kansas State out of the Big XII. Winner faces the Syracuse Orange.

Chris Dobbertean of SB Nation released his latest bracketology report this afternoon. Dobbertean has the Sun Devils as a 9 seed, also taking on Kansas State in the first round of the South. Dobbertean has ASU in "good shape" but not yet a lock for the big dance. A win against K-State would bring the Devils up against Florida.

Finally, Shelby Mast has the Sun Devils as a 7 seed in the Midwest, facing Baylor. This is the highest seed Arizona State has been afforded in bracketology projections to date.
