The departures of Egor Koulechov, Caelen Robinson and Brandan Kearney opened up roster spots and scholarships for the Sun Devils to use on transfers for next season and another one has now filled up.
Arizona State officially signed Savon Goodman Tuesday afternoon. Goodman averaged 3.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in 2012-13 with UNLV but departed Las Vegas in October 2013 and pled guilty to petty theft and trespassing charges. He then transferred to Indian Hills Community College and played under now Arizona State assistant coach Barret Peery.
"Savon is extremely athletic, very versatile and can rebound," head coach Herb Sendek said. "We love his athleticism and he will fit in well with our other newcomers and returners."
Goodman stands 6-foot-6, weighs in at 215 pounds and plays an athletic forward position. He will be available after the fall 2014 semester similar to Kearney's situation from this past season.
Goodman was the no. 72 ranked player in the class of 2012 according to Rivals and the no. 18 best player at his position. He also played football for two years in high school.
Another promising attribute of Goodman was his success in the physical public high school leagues in Philadelphia, Pa. A graduate of Constitution High School, he averaged 25.8 points, 14.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game as a senior. Goodman was also named a Parade All-American and played on the USA Elite National team that won the gold medal at the FIBA 22U World Championships in April 2012.
