ASU Baseball: Sun Devils hire Indiana's Tracy Smith as head coach

Smith comes to Tempe with an impressive pedigree with the Hoosiers.

According to Jeff Metcalfe of the Arizona Republic, Arizona State baseball has found its new skipper, former Indiana head baseball coach Tracy Smith.

Smith just completed an outstanding season with the Hoosiers, guiding them to a 44-15 record, and a 21-3 mark in the Big Ten, winning the conference outright, their second consecutive conference title. Indiana finished with a top seed in its regional before failing to advance.

Smith brings an impressive resume with him to the new era of Arizona State baseball at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. In nine seasons running the Indiana baseball program, he amassed a 287-235 record, and in 2013 guided the Hoosiers to their first College World Series appearance. He was a unanimous choice for the Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2013, and also won the National Coach of the Year that season as well.

Smith becomes the fifth head coach for the Sun Devils, following Bobby Winkles, Jim Brock, Pat Murphy and Tim Esmay.
