Spight originally signed with UTEP as a three-star recruit in high school, but ended up at South Plains in Levelland, Texas, where he averaged 16 points per game in his freshman campaign. He is the second verbal commitment in the Sun Devils' 2015 class, joining three-star guard Dominic Green.
The Pasadena High School graduate committed to Arizona State site unseen, with Creighton and Oregon reportedly giving him hard looks. He will visit Arizona State the weekend of Sept. 5 according to 247Sports.
From this Jucorecruiting.com article:
Spight had a very good July and performed at a high level in two national JC events (Jerry Mullen's Top 100 camp and the All American JUCO Showcase Elite 80). Arizona State made him a priority this summer and had their entire staff at every game at the All American JUCO Showcase Elite 80 camp in Las Vegas.
Spight also helped South Plains to a NJCAA National Tournament appearance last season. The Sun Devils will also rely on a lot of former JUCO players this season in Shaquielle McKissic, Roosevelt Scott, Willie Atwood and Gerry Blakes. The maroon and gold are clearly hoping Spight can help their cause as well next year.
