A new era of Arizona State baseball is set to begin in the spring and the Sun Devils took the first step on Tuesday afternoon with the announcement of their 2015 schedule. This upcoming season marks the program's first at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, after 40 years on campus at Packard Stadium.
It will also mark the Sun Devils first season under the leadership of former Indiana University skipper Tracy Smith, who was hired in late June after Tim Esmay resigned from the position.
The 2015 campaign will kickoff Feb. 13 when Arizona State welcomes 2014 Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State to Tempe. The Cowboys are coached by former Sun Devil assistant coach Josh Holiday and advanced to the super regionals last season.
The following weekend, Arizona State hosts 2014 College World Series participant TCU. The Sun Devils begin the season with 18 consecutive games at home including a weekend series against Long Beach State (March 6-8) and a midweek contest against UNLV. Both teams made the NCAA tournament in 2014.
"Our 2015 schedule provides us with an opportunity to prove ourselves against some of the best teams in the nation as well showcase the new home of Sun Devil Baseball, " said head coach Tracy Smith in a statement. "We are looking forward to moving into our new home as we begin the next chapter of ASU Baseball."
Arizona State will host the inaugural Phoenix Muni Classic from Feb. 26 to March 1, with Cal State Bakersfield, Purdue and Gonzaga participating.
Pac-12 play begins for the Sun Devils March 13 when Arizona State hosts Oregon State. Arizona will make the trip up to Tempe on April 10 for a weekend series. The Sun Devils will play midweek games in Tucson on April 22 and April 28. Other conference foes to visit Tempe include Stanford, Washington State and USC.
