It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
It wasn't the result that ASU fans were hoping for and it likely sinks any conference championship hopes for the Sun Devils this season, but man what a game.
I enjoy giving out game balls because it's all about finding aspects of a game to be happy about, it's all about the optimism. So yes, the result was disappointing. We vent, we pray to whatever deity we believe in and we move on to the next game.
With that said, let's give out some game balls.
Demario Richard and Kallen Ballage, RB - No. 4 & No. 9 (Sophomores)
Richard finished the game with 135 yards and a touchdown (also caught a touchdown) on 19 carries, Ballage ran for 127 yards on 12 carries. These guys are special talents and they're only sophomores. Neither had a fumble in the game and they played about as good as anybody could have hoped for out of the backfield.
Ballage and Richard, when both are healthy, really make the ASU offense dangerous and bring vital balance to that side of the ball.
Mike Bercovici, QB - No. 2 (Redshirt Senior)
Yes, the last interception was costly. That doesn't take away from the rest of Bercovici's game though and he had his best of the season. Berco threw for close to 400 yards and five touchdowns to five different receivers. Nine different Sun Devils had a catch, Bercovici was able to find guys all over the field Thursday night but made a critical error in the third overtime.
The game ball also goes to Bercovici for after the game. He handles himself in such a professional manner and I've come to really respect his accountability. I think that deserves something.
Tim White, WR - No. 12 (Redshirt Junior)
Nine catches for 97 yards and a huge touchdown late in the game. He's become the most dynamic wide receiver that Arizona State has and he's got endzone potential whenever he touches the ball. It's easy to see why the coaching staff was so excited about him entering the season.
Sun Devil Equipment
Well done. I loved every aspect of the traditional uniform combination and it was awesome to see the team honor Pat Tillman. Personally, I'm always going to love seeing Sparky on the helmets and I give kudos to the equipment staff and Adidas for the best uniforms of the season.
Maybe we can get the sunburst helmets next season.
