With just one week of nonconference play remaining before the Pac-12 season begins, we thought it would be good to take an updated look at our conference power rankings. House of Sparky's Connor Pelton and Kaelen Jones break it all down below.
Rank | Pelton's Picks | Jones' Picks |
1. | Arizona | Arizona |
2. | UCLA | Utah |
3. | Utah | UCLA |
4. | California | USC |
5. | Arizona State | Oregon |
6. | Oregon | Arizona State |
7. | USC | Oregon State |
8. | Oregon State | California |
9. | Colorado | Colorado |
10. | Washington State | Washington |
11. | Stanford | Washington State |
12. | Washington | Stanford |
Pelton's Picks
Arizona takes over the top spot this week. Losing to North Carolina isn't a bad loss by any means for the Bruins, but the Wildcats 11-1 record is looking much better than UCLA's 8-4 mark.
The next three spots seem pretty clear to me. Utah is rolling now, most recently adding an overtime upset of No. 7 Duke to its résumé, and California is 9-2 with a win over previously undefeated St. Mary's.
Arizona State rounds out the top five after a perfect week against UNLV and Houston Baptist.
Numbers six through nine seem interchangeable to me. Oregon, USC, Oregon State, and Colorado all look very similar at this point and have done nothing to distinguish themselves from each other.
Jones' Picks
Arizona is beginning to channel strong form, but Utah’s win over No. 7 Duke and UCLA’s challenge of No. 11 North Carolina has them right on the Wildcats’ heels.
ASU’s win over UNLV and sound defeat of Houston Baptist gives them a bit more intrigue from the middle of the pack, as does Oregon’s comfortable win over Long Beach State.
