Following a 42-14 blowout loss at the hands of the USC Trojans, the Sun Devils headed west to face the UCLA Bruins, who at the time were ranked No. 7 in the nation.
While most fans entered the game with little expectations for a Sun Devil victory, they were treated to the best performance of the season by Todd Graham's. As the Sun Devils went into the Rose Bowl and topped the Bruins 38-23.
The defense pressured and disrupted UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen all night and the ASU offense turned in one of its most complete performances of the season.
The exclamation point of the game -- and perhaps the entire season -- came late in the fourth quarter and put the Bruins away for good. The play featured both an incredible individual performance as well as superb teamwork and is a runaway choice for our Play of the Year.
Play No. 1: Kalen Ballage's Moonwalk Touchdown against UCLA
The Sun Devils were facing a third-and-six from the UCLA 23-yard line, leading by eight with 1:00 left on the clock. ASU lined up with three receivers, a tight end and Ballage to the right of Mike Bercovici in the shotgun.
Bercovici took the snap and handed the ball to Ballage on a read option. Ballage was first contacted at about the 20-yard line as he ran into his offensive linemen, who got a good push on the play.
The Human Bulldozer kept his feet churning and with the aid of several of his teammates backpedaled his way into the UCLA end zone to seal the victory for Arizona State.
The play is hard to describe because of its many moving parts, so we suggest you take some time out of your Christmas and watch it below.
