Burfict sounds off on costly penalty following OT loss to Osweiler-led Broncos

Vontaze Burfict has certainly developed a reputation across the league over the course of his career for being one of the more aggressive players in the NFL; often to a fault.

Such was the case on Monday Night, when an unnecessary roughness penalty against the Pro Bowl linebacker advanced the ball into Cincinnati territory before Brock Osweiler guided his Denver Broncos to a 20-17 win over the Bengals after trailing 14-3 at halftime.

Burfict was called for the foul after attempting to strip the ball away from Broncos tight end Virgil Green along the sideline, as he continued to scrap for the ball despite Green having stepped out of bounds and the play being blown dead.

Burfict claims he heard no whistle, and that the penalty was thrown because he was a part of the play.

"The refs, they obviously have it out for me," he told ESPN.com. "But you can't call a bull--- flag like that at the end of a game. He looked at my number and then threw it."

In spite of the loss, the Bengals can still clinch a playoff bye, however they will need the Broncos to lose next week after clinching a playoff spot following the result of the Monday Night contest.
