Three-star defensive end commit Jalen Bates signed with ASU Wednesday, four months after making his initial commitment to the Sun Devils.
Bates, from Kaplan High School in Kaplan, LA., is rated as the No. 57 defensive end in the nation. He is rated as the No. 34 player in the state of Louisiana by ESPN.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Bates held offers from TCU, Mississippi, Michigan, Louisiana, and Mississippi State, among others. He took his official visit to Tempe back in late August. The only other Pac-12 school that was in the mix was Oregon State. Some believed that Mississippi State was the favorite to land the big defensive end, but Bates spurned the Bulldogs and decided to head west.
Bates is ranked No. 29 at his position and No. 25 in the state of Louisiana by Rivals.
Bates primarily played on the weak side while in high school and is expected to do the same with the Sun Devils. To view some of his highlights, play the video below.
