Now that the ASU hockey season is over, the coaching staff can dedicate even more time to recruiting. The Sun Devils picked up their first recruit of the offseason Sunday afternoon, when defenseman Nick Gushue announced via Instagramhe would be coming to Tempe.
At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Gushue becomes the biggest defenseman either committed or already on the team. He plays a physical game, but has a scoring touch, with eight goals and 27 assists for 35 points in 58 games, huge numbers for a defenseman in a league like the BCHL.
Gushue has also turned it on once his Nanaimo Clippers reached the playoffs. He was arguably the best player on the ice for the Clippers' first round, and as of this writing, he has four goals and four assists in nine playoff games.
Gushue is ASU's fourth defensive commit.
