ASU Football: Safety DJ Morgan commits to the Sun Devils

The Sun Devils landed their first defensive recruit for the class of 2016.

St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) defensive back DJ Morgan committed to the Arizona State Sun Devils Wednesday afternoon at a commitment ceremony with two of his teammates.

Morgan was one of three ASU targets from the California powerhouse to commit Wednesday. Cornerback Traveon Beck committed to Cal and athlete Sean McGrew committed to Washington.

Morgan, who was the second player to announce of the three, donned an ASU hat and threw up the pitchforks at the ceremony. He becomes the first defensive commit in ASU's 2016 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound safety is listed as a 4-star prospect according to Rivals. Morgan held offers from a slew of Power 5 conference teams including Cal, Nebraska, Colorado, Vanderbilt, Utah and Northwestern. The Sun Devils offered Morgan last fall according to 247 sports.

ESPN recruiting ranks Morgan as a 3-star prospect and the nation's 30th best safety. Rivals sees him as the No. 24 safety in the nation and 247 sports ranks him as the 38th best safety in the nation.

Morgan is just the fourth verbal commitment in ASU's 2016 class. He joins offensive linemen Marshal Nathe and Cohl Cabral and running back Freddie Holly.

Just a reminder that all commitments are verbal and non-binding until the prospects sign on the dotted line in February.
