Former ASU signal caller Taylor Kelly has been invited to Arizona Cardinals rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, according to Doug Haller of azcentral sports. The three-day minicamp takes place this weekend at the team's facility in Tempe.
Kelly was a three-year starter at Arizona State, passing for 8,819 yards and 79 touchdowns during his time in maroon and gold. He missed a good portion of the 2014 season with a broken foot sustained in September during a victory against Colorado. The Arizona Cardinals currently have four quarterbacks on their roster. However, with Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton coming off of knee injuries, the Cardinals may be looking to bring in another quarterback to participate in their offseason program. Second year signal caller Logan Thomas and former Northern Illinois quarterbacks Chandler Harnish make up the other quarterbacks on Arizona's 90-man roster.
It is important to note that the Cardinals have not signed Kelly to an undrafted free agent contract. If he impresses this weekend, they may ask him back for their team minicamp later in June and possibly training camp later in the summer.
On another Sun Devil note, the Cleveland Browns signed tight end/pass rusher De'Marieya Nelson to an undrafted free agent contract after the draft.
The Cardinals are expected to announce their rookie signings today. For more info, head over to SB Naton's Cardinals site Revenge of the Birds.
