It was a slow start for both teams as the first quarter saw no scoring.
The Arizona State Sun Devils went three-and-out on their first two drives that lasted one minute and 47 seconds. The Sun Devils finally got things going with a 17-play, 74-yard drive. Still, the Sun Devils got stalled on New Mexico's 1-yard line and settled for Zane Gonzalez's 22-yard field goal.
The New Mexico Lobos couldn't get much going either. Three of their four major drives lasted more than five minutes. On their fourth possession late in the second quarter, the Lobos drove 62 yards on 16 plays, but a miss from Jason Sanders from 35 yards that went wide right ruined the Lobos' drive.
The Sun Devils used their last drive of the half by marching 80 yards in eight plays. Mike Bercovici found Tim White for a 14-yard touchdown that gave the Sun Devils their 10-0 lead.
ASU finished with 156 total yards (116 passing, 40 rushing) while New Mexico ended with 137 yards (78 rushing, 50 passing). Bercovici finished the half completing his final seven passes.
The Lobos were hurting ASU third-down conversions, as they were 7-for-12 on third down.
ASU will receive the ball in the second half.
