College Gameday chooses Tucson over Tempe for Week 4

Guess what? College Gameday is coming to the state of Arizona! But it's not coming to Tempe for USC-ASU...

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Three weeks ago, it seemed like Tempe would be a likely destination for ESPN's College Gameday to visit when the Arizona State Sun Devils host the USC Trojans, right?

Not so fast, my friend.

In the wake of another crazy weekend of Pac-12 football, College Gameday announced Sunday the show will be headed to Tucson next week to cover the matchup between the No. 20 Arizona Wildcats and the No. 10 UCLA Bruins.

The Arizona-UCLA matchup was clearly the most logical matchup for college football's premier pregame show to highlight, as both teams remain undefeated at 3-0 heading into Week 4.

Prior to the season, Arizona State seemed to be the favorite to host College Gameday at Week 4 in honor of its matchup against USC, but the Sun Devils have underwhelmed in their first three weeks and the No. 6 Trojans fell to unranked Stanford Saturday night. Both teams are 2-1 going into Week 4.

It looked like it was down to Tempe and Tucson when College Gameday producer Lee Fitting tweeted this Friday:

Autzen, Ore. (No. 21 Utah at No. 12 Oregon) and Lubbock, Texas (No. 3 TCU vs. Texas Tech) were likely other Week 4 options for College Gameday.

UCLA vs. Arizona will kickoff at 5:00 p.m. PT on ABC, with USC vs. Arizona State starting at 7:30 p.m. PT on ESPN.

The last time College Gameday visited Tempe was on Sept. 26, 2005 when the then-No. 14 Sun Devils hosted then-No. 1 USC in what ended up to be a thriller.

Last week, ABC 15 interviewed Arizona State fans on why they felt Tempe deserved to host College Gameday for the USC game.

We're sure ASU fans have some jokes about College Gameday coming to Tucson. Let us know about your thoughts in the comments below.
