ASU Olympic Sports Update: Swimming makes news; volleyball rolls

Your weekly update for everything happening in the ASU sports world.

Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Once a week, we will update you on some of the happenings with the ASU Olympic sports. So far, only two sports at ASU have begun and both teams have started strong.

ASU Swimming

Head coach Bob Bowman was named the head coach for Team USA in advance of the 2016 Olympic Games. Bowman was hired as the program's head coach in late April earlier this year.

Arizona native and Olympic gold medalist Misty Hyman has been hired as the program's new senior assistant head coach. The State Press has the story on the news.

ASU Volleyball

The No. 10 Sun Devils improved to a 7-0 record with a 3-1 win over Northern Arizona on Tuesday. The set dropped snaps the team's streak of four consecutive sweeps (Air Force, Colorado State, Western Michigan, Northern Colorado).

The team's next match will be played on Sunday, September 13, against Gonzaga in Tempe as the Sun Devils begin a long home stand.

ASU Soccer

2-0 win over Stephen F. Austin improved the Sun Devils' record to 3-0 on the season. It is the first time the team has begun a campaign with three straight wins since 2010.

The team will play No. 19 Pepperdine on Friday, September 11 at 4:30 p.m. next, followed by No. 21 Texas Tech on Sunday, September 13 at 11 a.m. at  the University of Arizona tournament.

ASU Hockey

Per the school website, reserved season tickets have sold out. General admission tickets are available, but limited.
