College Football

After a week of buildup all throughout the Valley, the actual playing of the College Football Playoff title game took place last night. The contest lived up to the hype, with the Alabama Crimson Tide eventually squeezing out a 45-40 victory. The championship is Alabama's fourth in the last seven seasons.

ASU Women's Basketball

After a hard-fought, 68-61 win on Friday at Washington, the Arizona State women's team returned to the floor two days later and picked apart Washington State. They returned home with a 10 game winning streak still intact, and now have a top-10 ranking on top of that. Next up for Charli Turner Thorne's team is a Friday morning meeting with 5-10 Colorado.

Former Sun Devils

The news came down yesterday that former ASU linebacker Vontaze Burfict would be suspended for the first three games of the 2016 season. Burfict picked up a huge personal foul late in Saturday's playoff loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers, just another incident in a long line of repeated safety violations.

Miscellaneous

Sun Devil play-by-play man Tim Healey had himself a nice Monday as he was named Arizona Sportscaster of the Year by the NSSA. Healey has called over 200 football games for the maroon and gold, while also logging countless broadcasts across other sports.
