Report: Arizona State to hire TJ Rushing as DBs coach

ASU hires a familiar face after stints with Northern Arizona and Stanford.

The Arizona State Sun Devils will bring back former graduate assistant T.J. Rushing as their new defensive backs coach, according to SI.com's Thayer Evans.

Rushing succeeds Chris Ball, who left Arizona State last week to serve as the Memphis Tigers' defensive coordinator under former ASU offensive coordinator Mike Norvell.

Rushing first coached under Graham in the 2012-13 as a defensive graduate assistant. Rushing then served as Northern Arizona's defensive backs coach for the 2014 season and coach the Stanford Cardinal in 2015 as a defensive assistant.

Rushing played collegiately at Stanford as a cornerback and a kick returner from 2003-06, then played five years professionally with the Indianapolis Colts.

ASU will have several changes to make in the secondary over the offseason, as it will return just one of four starting defensive backs, boundary safety Kareem Orr.
