With one week of conference play in the books, it is time for an updated look at our Pac-12 power rankings. House of Sparky's Connor Pelton and Kaelen Jones break it all down below.
Rank | Pelton's Picks | Jones' Picks |
1. | Arizona | Arizona |
2. | California | Oregon |
3. | Oregon State | California |
4. | Arizona State | UCLA |
5. | USC | Oregon State |
6. | Oregon | Arizona State |
7. | Washington | USC |
8. | Colorado | Utah |
9. | Utah | Washington State |
10. | UCLA | Washington |
11. | Stanford | Colorado |
12. | Washington State | Stanford |
Pelton's Picks
It's obviously early, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Arizona and California distance themselves from the other 10 teams over the next few weeks. The Wildcats are one of the top teams in the country with a healthy Kaleb Tarczewski, and the Golden Bears have won eight of their last nine (with the lone loss coming by one at No. 5 Virginia).
Oregon State, Arizona State, USC, and Oregon all seem fairly even to me at this point. All four teams posted similar nonconference slates, so it's tough to distinguish them from each other.
Utah and UCLA are trending down at the moment, but don't be surprised if they soon jump into the upper half of the conference. The talent is there for both teams, but their matching 0-2 starts to Pac-12 play was a head-scratcher. The Bruins will have a chance to redeem themselves Thursday when they host Arizona in Pauley Pavilion, then Saturday against Arizona State.
Jones' Picks
With No. 25 UCLA dropping a matchup that required double-overtime to Washington, then faltering against Washington State, the Bruins fall a couple spots this week.
Utah, who spent last week garnered as the No. 21-ranked team in the nation, also suffered losses to Stanford and California, unable to carry momentum following their upset of Duke. Elsewhere, Oregon State’s win over Oregon pushes them a few spots up too.
