ASU Hockey: Sun Devils open Desert Hockey Classic against No. 12 Yale

The Sun Devils first matchup in the Desert Hockey Classic should be quite the test.

When the Sun Devils take the ice on Friday night for their first matchup of the Desert Hockey Classic, they will be doing so against a tough opponent in No. 12 ranked Yale.

"The Desert Hockey Classic is a great opportunity to show what Sun Devil Hockey is all about. We get to showcase our program on a national stage and we could not be more thrilled that three great programs are joining us in making history," Head Coach Greg Powers said about the Classic.

Arizona State is coming off of a 5-2 loss against UCONN at home in Tempe, their first home Division 1 game. Jordan Masters scored both goals for the Sun Devils and defenseman Joey Raats picked up two assists.

Yale is coming off of a 3-2 overtime victory against Massachusetts, where John Hayden netted the game-winner. It was a strong defensive effort, with goaltender Alex Lyon only needing to make 16 saves in the win.

This will be the first time that Sun Devil hockey takes on Yale, although they have already played three different ECAC opponents: Quinnipiac, Clarkson and RPI.

The Sun Devils will play at 8PM MST, and can be found on the Pac-12 Network. Their second game will be Sunday either against Michigan Tech or a rematch against UCONN.
