ASU Football: Sun Devils kick off bye-week practice

The Sun Devils are hoping to get back to full strength.

The Arizona State Sun Devils participated in the first practice session of their bye week Tuesday at the Kajikawa Practice Fields. Players were suited in shells (i.e. shoulder pads, helmets, and shorts).

The team worked through pursuit and tackle drills in front of media.

Demario Richard, Kareem Orr fully participate

Richard (ASU’s starting running back) and Orr (ASU’s starting cornerback) each fully participated in today’s practice after sitting out the Sun Devils’ loss to the Oregon Ducks last weekend. Orr has been dealing with a knee injury, while Richard’s was never disclosed after sporting a green non-contact jersey throughout practice last week.

Crump, White update

Devilbacker Koron Crump wore a knee brace over his right knee. Crump was briefly removed from last week’s loss after suffering injury while logging his team-high ninth sack of the season.

Receiver Tim White, who was relegated to return duty against the Ducks, worked through drills, however didn’t participate in team tackle period.

Manny Wilkins update

The redshirt-sophomore worked through full stretches today, however worked with the third-team offense during the tackle-drill period.

He did not attempt a pass during team drills.

McCray, Jones still out

Starting offensive lineman Stephon McCray, who was injured during the Sun Devils’ first offensive possession against Oregon, sported a boot over his right foot and didn’t participate.

Starting left guard Sam Jones (right foot) is still being held out, and worked out on Muscle Beach during today’s practice.

Fiso among limited participants

Starting linebacker Salamo Fiso and safety Dasmond Tautalatasi were limited and walked through stretches.

McCollum with second team, McClure with first

Tyler McClure has not relinquished the starting center role to AJ McCollum, who missed the Sun Devils’ matchups against Washington State and Oregon.

Muscle Beach

Receiver Cameron Smith, quarterback Bryce Perkins (neck—is no longer wearing a neck brace), Jones, Fiso, Sam and Tautalatasi were today’s inhabitants of Muscle Beach, the area designated for injured players during practice.
