Arizona State wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Jay Norvell reportedly agreed to become Nevada’s new head coach on Wednesday, according to FootballScoop.
Norvell will leave after spending just one season in Tempe as a part of Todd Graham’s staff.
He was a candidate for ASU’s offensive coordinator job last offseason before agreeing to his current roles with the Sun Devils while fielding an annual salary of $355,000. No figures have been reported as to what Norvell expects to make as the Wolfpack’s coach, however the program’s previous head coach, Brian Polian, earned a guaranteed fixture of $550,000 per year.
Norvell has a lengthy list of coaching experience.
Since 1988, his position-coaching stops include Northern Iowa, Wisconsin, Iowa State, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Oakland Raiders. Norvell later served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at both Nebraska and UCLA prior to stints at Oklahoma and Texas before moving on to Arizona State last offseason.
Nevada will mark the first head-coaching job of Norvell’s career.
