One month after coming to Tempe as ASU's new running backs coach, Kodi Burns has left his post with the Arizona State Sun Devils to return to his alma mater Auburn and coach there, Sports Illustrated's Thayer Evans reported.

The 27-year-old spent his playing career as a wide receiver and fan favorite for the Tigers, and scored a touchdown in Auburn's win over Oregon in the 2011 national championship.
Burns came to ASU shortly after Chip Lindsey was hired on as the team's new offensive coordinator, and stepped up to a much larger stage than the one that he had previously existed within at Middle Tennessee State. Even in the short time he spent in Tempe, Burns' recruiting talent was lauded.
In an interview after joining the ASU staff, Burns called it a "no-brainer" decision to come to the Pac-12, but as soon as Auburn's wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig left to coach at LSU, Burns' loyalty to his new school was tested with loyalty to his alma mater.
The alma mater won out.
ASU now searches for its fourth running backs coach in the past six months, with spring practice a few weeks away.
