The start of the 2016 baseball season is still over two weeks away, but now is the time for preseason polls and projections. Pac-12 coaches revealed their selections on Thursday, with Oregon State earning nine of 11 possible first place votes.
That gave the Beavers the top spot in the preseason poll, with UCLA, California, Oregon, and USC all following closely behind. The poll gave 10 points if a team was voted to finish first, nine points to finish second, eight to finish third, etc.
Arizona State finished with 50 points — good enough for sixth place.
Stanford, Washington, Arizona, Washington State, and Utah rounded out the bottom half of the league.
Nationally, Arizona State has received little love in the preseason rankings. The Sun Devils came in at No. 41 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, and went unranked in both the NCWBA Top 35 and D1Baseball Top 25 polls.
The Sun Devils will open the season at Phoenix Municipal Stadium on February 19 against Xavier. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. (MT).
