The Arizona State Sun Devils will wear 1965 throwback uniforms on April 26 against the Arizona Wildcats to commemorate former outfielder Rick Monday, the team announced Tuesday.

Monday, who played at Arizona State in 1965 and earned Player of the Year honors from The Sporting News, is famous for saving the America flag from being burned by protestors on April 25, 1976 as a member of the Chicago Cubs. Arizona State will wear the uniforms with a special patch and honor Monday one day after his 40th anniversary of his moment:

Monday was the first player ever drafted in the inaugural Major League First-Year Draft in 1965. He finished his career as a two-time All-Star and a World Series Champion with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1981.
