NCAA Baseball Bracketology: Championship Week Edition

A look at the national picture with just seven days remaining until Selection Monday.

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

With just three games remaining in the regular season, the Arizona State baseball team has done enough work over the last six weeks to ensure itself of a trip to the NCAA Tournament for a fourth consecutive season. The Sun Devils have now won six straight series, putting their record at 33-19 (15-12 Pac-12).

So, which of the 16 regionals might the maroon and gold land in? Do they have a shot at hosting one of those regionals? We attempt to project the full field below.

Bracket Banter:

  • The Sun Devils are a two seed at the moment, but it is still possible for them to host a regional if they finish the season with two or three wins against USC this weekend. Their RPI (No. 39) could still use a little work. Only the 2002 Notre Dame team has been awarded a host site with an RPI north of 40.
  • One of the most interesting storylines around the country is the hosting situation out west. As UC Santa Barbara did not submit a bid to host, it appears that it is down to five clubs - Washington, Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, Arizona, and Arizona State - for one or two spots.
  • Since none of these teams currently have a top-16 résumé, it's possible that they receive a two seed but still get to play at their own ballpark. That is the case with Long Beach State, who looks to be the best option of the above five teams heading into the final week of play. The Dirtbags already have a pair of wins against both the Sun Devils and Titans and have another series with Cal State Fullerton ahead of them this weekend.
Note: These will continue to be updated as the week progresses, with a fresh projection coming on Sunday morning.
