After eight seasons and four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, Jason Watson left Tempe to coach at Arkansas. For the first time in nearly a decade, Arizona State volleyball needed a new head coach.
In February, just under a month after Watson's departure, ASU Athletic Director hired Stevie Mussie. At 30 years old, Mussie is the youngest coach in the Pac-12, and although ASU is her first head coaching gig, she has a wealth of experience to share with her new team.
After two standout years at Pacific, Mussie transferred to Washington, where she eventually earned All-Pac-10 honors as a senior. From there, Mussie spent time as an assistant coach at Virginia, North Carolina State, Colorado and most recently at Penn State.
The coaching staff isn't the only part of the ASU program experiencing a turnover. The roster features six freshmen and four transfers. That likely played a part in the Pac-12 coaches poll predicting ASU to finish 11th in the conference.
With ASU's season starting this weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mussie's version of ASU volleyball is here.
