2017 Reese’s Senior Bowl: Zane Gonzalez ties single-game record with 3 field goals

Former Arizona State kicker Zane Gonzalez tied a Senior Bowl single-game record by making three field goals for the North team, which lost to the South, 16-15, during the 2017 Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday.

Gonzalez scored the North’s first nine points. He became the NCAA all-time leader in career field goals made (96) during his final season with the Sun Devils amidst making 23 of 25 attempts, including seven from 50 yards out or further.

The Lou Groza Award winner was the sole ASU representative to participate in the contest.

Gonzalez’s first field goal came with 3:35 remaining in the first quarter when he knocked in a 22-yard attempt to give the North a 3-0 lead.

He would connect on a 29-yard kick during the third quarter before booting a 39-yarder ahead of the quarter’s conclusion.

The performance marked the first time a kicker had made three field goals in one Senior Bowl appearance since 1985, when Georgia's Kevin Butler drilled three kicks to lead the South to a 23-7 win.

With a perfect day, Gonzalez’s stock could stand to rise ahead of the NFL Draft in April.

Proof of the possibility came ahead of Gonzalez’s third attempt when NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said one scout told him Gonzalez is the highest-graded kicker he’s evaluated in over 20 years.

The NFL Draft will take place in Philadelphia from April 27-29.
