Arizona State (4-8-2, 1-4-1) traveled north to Eugene on Friday to take on the Oregon Ducks (7-7-0, 1-5-0) as they head into the closing stretch of conference play, but fell 3-0.
It didn’t take long for the home team to get on the board as Marissa Everett finished her fourth goal of the season off a rebound in the third minute. Oregon carried their early momentum as they doubled their lead when Everett scored her second goal of the game in the 26th minute.
After the second goal by Oregon, ASU settled down and created some chances, but ultimately were not able to get the ball to bounce the right way as the Ducks defense was too strong.
Early in the second half, Jazmarie Mader and ASU, put some pressure on the Ducks when she fired a strike that was saved by Halla Hinriksdottir, Oregon’s goalkeeper.
Oregon’s attack would not go away as Miranda Schulz added insurance for the Ducks to make it 3-0 for her first goal of the season after she recovered the ball inside the 18-yard box.
Overall, the Sun Devils were outshot 11 to five and could not find the back of the net, as Hinriksdottir earned the clean sheet, while Megan Delaney, ASU’s goalkeeper, made eight saves of her own.
Arizona State looks to end its five game winless streak on Thursday, Oct. 19 when the Sun Devils travel to Boulder to take on the Colorado Buffaloes. They finish the weekend on the road against Utah on Sunday.
