Arizona State finished its home schedule strong as the Sun Devils defeated the University of Washington on senior day on Sunday afternoon, 1-0.

Instead of Nikki Panas starting the game in net for the Sun Devils, it was redshirt senior, Ashley March who made the start in her final home game. March kept a clean sheet in the first half while recording one save.

The Sun Devils (5-10-3, 2-6-2 Pac-12) were also unable to generate any offense in the first half, as the game was scoreless going into the break.

In the second half, coach Graham Winkworth made another goalie substitution, this time putting in senior Megan Delaney. Although Washington, (9-8-2, 2-6-2) was able to create open space in the second frame, Delaney stopped their only shot on target to complete the combined clean sheet with March.

In the 72nd minute, Christina Edwards of Arizona State, shot an absolute laser from outside the left corner of the box that sailed over the Washington goalkeeper’s head into the opposite corner of the net. Edwards’s third goal of the season broke the tie for the Sun Devils, which would ultimately be enough for ASU.

To ensure the victory, Winkworth parked the bus and brought everyone back to play tight defense to close out the game. The Sun Devils were able to stifle the Washington offense by only allowing two shots on target all game.

For now, the seniors can enjoy their victory after snapping their eight-game winless streak. On Thursday night, Arizona State finishes out their season, as the Sun Devils try to take home the territorial cup when they face their in-state rivals, the University of Arizona, down in Tucson at 7 p.m.
