Aldine MacArthur High School (Houston, Texas) 3-star linebacker Jacoby Simpson de-committed from Arizona State in an announcement via his Twitter page Wednesday afternoon.
I’m officially de-committing from Arizona State University and re-opening my recruitment.
— Jacoby Simpson (@thejacoby47) December 13, 2017
Simpson originally committed to ASU on Oct. 30., and is the fifth prospect from the 2018 class to de-commit. He follows tight end Brett Bell (Dec. 12) linebacker Kendrick Catis (Dec. 10), offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson (Dec. 6) and wide receiver Jalen Nailor (Nov. 27).
Simpson reopened his recruitment four days after he visited Kansas State on Dec. 9. Among 13 offers, he received five from power five schools: Arkansas, Kansas, Louisville, ASU and KSU, but has only visited the Sun Devils and Wildcats.
Just 10 players remain in Arizona State’s 2018 class, which is the second-least in the Pac-12 behind Utah who owns seven.
Without Simpson, the Sun Devils poses four-star Reggie Hughes and three-star Christian LaValle as the two linebackers in the 2018 class.
