PHOENIX — Entering the weekend coming off a back and forth 13-12 defeat at the hands of UNLV, Arizona State (16-19, 5-10 Pac-12) hosts its first non-conference series since mid-March as Cal-State Bakersfield comes to Phoenix Muni for a three game set starting on Friday night.
The Sun Devils look for their second consecutive sweep this weekend and third on the season after taking three games straight against Washington State last week, April 13-15.
Third in the WAC (Western Athletic Conference) and 20-12 this season, CSU Bakersfield comes to Tempe with plenty of momentum winning seven of its last nine.
The Roadrunners’ offense is led by David Metzegar who’s currently riding a 15-game hitting streak and a 29 game on-base streak. His teammate, Ryan Grotjohn, enters this weekend with a .452 batting average — the second highest in college baseball.
The Sun Devils will see the Roadrunners’ ace, Max Carter (6-1 2.34 ERA), on Friday night. Bakersfield leads the all-time series against ASU, 2-1. The last time the two squads met in 2015, the Sun Devils split a pair of games.
