There is no doubting that Arizona State’s hockey program is on an upward trajectory, but heading into this past season there were a fair share of doubters.

A hard earned 10-win season with a handful of wins over ranked opponents played a large roll in silencing such doubts.

One of the most impressive wins of the season came on Jan. 14 when the Sun Devils topped the tenth ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, Oh. by way of a shootout.

Following a 6-1 loss to the Buckeyes on Friday night, the Devils bounced back in a big way the following afternoon. After jumping to an early lead in the first period the team found itself down 2-1 late in the third period when Tyler Busch found the back of the net with just 26 seconds remaining to force overtime.

After overtime proved fruitless for both sides, the game would be settled in a shootout.

Then,Wade Murphy beat Ohio State goaltender Christian Frey in the first round, and senior net minder Robert Levin took care of the rest stopping all three OSU shooters he faced.

The win sparked a phenomenal conclusion to the season for ASU where the team won seven of their last ten games including road wins over both Quinnipiac and Western Michigan.
