On Sept. 16, 2016, then-junior running back Kalen Ballage ran into the NCAA record book in a shootout against Texas Tech. Ballage put on a show in front of the home crowd and tied the FBS single-game touchdown record with eight total touchdowns.

The record was set in 1990 by Griffith Howard who played fullback for the University of Illinois. No other player at any level of college football has scored more than eight touchdowns in one game, according to ESPN.

Ballage scored his eighth and final touchdown on a 75-yard run with 9:11 left in the fourth quarter as he helped carry the Sun Devils to a 68-55 victory.
