AP Poll: Arizona State drops for second consecutive week, Arizona climbs ahead

Where did the Devils land?

After dropping games in consecutive weeks, the Arizona State Sun Devils have now fallen in the AP Top 25 by 12 spots in two weeks.

Last week, ASU’s loss to Colorado shot them down form No. 4 to No. 11. This week, it was its 76-72 defeat to Oregon on Thursday that played the biggest roll in ASU dropping to No. 16.

Monday’s Poll also marks the first time since week four that Arizona is ranked ahead of the Sun Devils. The Wildcats took care of both Oregon schools and jumped from 17th to 14th this week. The Sun Devils and Wildcats remain the only two ranked Pac-12 teams.

ASU may still have a ranking attached to them, but the Sun Devils are staring up at others in the Pac-12 race. ASU’s 2-3 conference record is tied for seventh best.

The Devils’ matchup with Arizona on February 15 may be their only remaining game against a ranked opponent. Nonetheless, ASU still hold marquee non-conference wins over No. 10 Kansas and No. 11 Xavier.

Arizona State’s next chance to boost its ranking comes this week as the team travels to the Bay Area to face Stanford on Wednesday at 9 p.m. and California on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. MT.
