ASU Basketball: ASU vs. Long Beach State Instant Recap

Arizona State beat down the Beach.

Arizona State men’s basketball defeated the Long Beach State 49ers 90-58 Monday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe.

The 32-point drubbing was spearheaded by a strong first half that put the Sun Devils in front for good.

ASU’s defense was strong throughout, including limiting the 49ers to only 58 points for the game as they shot a very poor 28 percent from the field. Arizona State also forced 16 Long Beach State turnovers.

Arizona State continued their trend of getting to the free throw line at a high volume, as they shot 27-for-36 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore guard Remy Martin led all scorers going for 15 points and dishing out five assists. He continues to progress from an ankle injury as he looks to re-gain full strength and mobility.

Redshirt senior Zylan Cheatham turned in another impressive night at the office. He scored 12 points and brought down nine rebounds while making some highlight reel plays with his athleticism.

Cheatham brought ‘The Bank’ to its feet during the first half as he chased down a Long Beach State layup attempt for a highlight reel level block.

Freshman guard Luguentz Dort was all over the glass Monday night, he collected 12 points and 12 rebounds notching the double-double.

ASU also received some nice contributions of the bench from their bigs. Sophomore forward Romello White scored 12 points and came down with nine rebounds. Senior De’Quon Lake was perfect from the field scoring 10 points and threw down some thunderous dunks in the process.

The Sun Devils now prepare for their first road contest of the season as they travel to take on the University of San Francisco. Friday’s game will tipoff at 7 p.m. Arizona time and can be seen on the Pac-12 Network.
