No. 19 Arizona State (3-2) started the 2018-19 season with a 81-43 over Incarnate Word. The team felt their effort was not up to expectation. Tonight’s outing had performances that looked effortless.

The Sun Devils closed their Las Vegas road trip with a pummeling 82-38 victory over Southern Illinois (3-3) Saturday.

It was a well-spread distribution of minutes as well as scoring for the Devils, as four players reached double-digits in points.

Junior Reili Richardson led the way with 11 and had three steals in 17 minutes. Junior Robbi Ryan, senior Kianna Ibis and freshman Iris Mbulito totaled 10 points as well. Ibis was a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor.

This was a much better shooting performance for ASU, who made 28-of-50 shots on the court, 9-of-17 from three-point range. It was a large step-up from yesterday where the team was only 20-for-61.

As the game went along and the lead began to widen, it became an opportunity for some of the younger Devils to garner some minutes.

Sophomore Eva Rubin scored her first points of the season in her 11 minutes. She was 2-of-4 from the field and 1-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Freshman Jayde Van Hyfte got playing time against her sister Celina of the Salukis. In 16 minutes she scored 7 points and had two steals.

ASU put together two strong performances over the weekend in Vegas despite the 1-1 trip. They return home for the ASU Classic in Tempe starting Saturday, December 1st.

They will face Louisiana Tech (4-1) with tipoff at 1 p.m. The game can be viewed on the Pac-12 Network.
