One day closer to Vegas

Andrew Palla/House of Sparky

It’s officially less than a week until game day, and it was a Sunday fun day inside the bubble at the Kajikawa Practice Fields in preparation for the Vegas Bowl. It was also the second to last practice in Tempe before ASU departs for Vegas.

Last practice: Wednesday, December 5

Injury update

Quarterback Ryan Kelley was by the trainer’s table and is still out.

Jalen Harvey was in uniform, but did not participate in practice.

Notes

Media was allowed to view practice from beginning to end on Sunday. Practice began with special teams work with kickoff and punt returns. Brandon Aiyuk, Chase Lucas, and Isaiah Floyd all fielded punts and kickoffs.

The offense also worked on plays in the red zone and third and short situations.

To end practice, the first team offense and defense went 11-on-11. During the sequence, quarterback Manny Wilkins found freshman tight end Jarick Caldwell for a touchdown pass on a corner route.

On the sideline, Jalen Harvey exclaimed, “Looking like the old 89,” in reference to Caldwell’s catch and Harvey’s old jersey number as a tight end from last season.

On defense during 11-on-11s, junior cornerback Kobe Williams got matched up one-on-one on the outside with redshirt sophomore wide receiver Frank Darby. Williams made a nice defensive play to force Darby near the sideline. Darby caught the pass, but he was out of bounds.
