Arizona State men’s golf teed up for the first time in the spring season at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course in Waikoloa, Hawaii, where the Sun Devils finished a modest ninth place.
Scoring 16-under as a team, ASU shot 8-under in the final round of the three-day tournament.
Alex Del Rey Gonzalez and Chun An Yu both finished in the top-20 individually. Gonzalez completed the tournament at a solid 9-under which was good enough for T-9 out of over 100 golfers. Yu finished 7-under, which tied him for 20th overall.
The rest of the team was rounded out by Koichiro Ishika (plus-2, T-59), Mason Anderson (plus-2, T-59) and Blake Wagoner (plus-3, T-64).
ASU beat out Pac-12 opponents such as Stanford, Colorado and Oregon State but found themselves behind Oregon and USC.
Justin Suh, of USC, was crowned medalist, shooting 13-under for the weekend, but it was Oklahoma State who finished on top of the team leaderboard, registering a combined 47-under, which was 17 strokes better than second place, Texas Tech.
The next scheduled event for the Sun Devils is the National Invitational, which is hosted by Arizona at the Omni Tucson National Golf Club. The tournament will take place Feb. 26-27.
