ASU Baseball: Sun Devils even series with 8-5 win over No. 5 Oregon State

The Arizona State Sun Devils (18-24, 10-10 Pac-12) defeated the No. 5 Oregon State Beavers (31-8, 11-7) by a score of 8-5 Saturday evening in Corvallis, handing OSU its first loss in eight games.

ASU trailed 5-4 heading into the late innings, before an eight-batter seventh inning sparked three runs. Sophomore catcher Lyle Lin and freshman third baseman Gage Workman each had RBI singles, while freshman left fielder Hunter Jump scored in a run on a double to give ASU a 7-5 lead.

The Sun Devils scored eight runs off 13 hits in the win, coming against OSU’s No. 2 starter, right-handed junior Bryce Fehmel who fell to 5-2 on the year. Junior center fielder Gage Canning and Jump each had three-hit affairs, while Lin went 2-for-5 with four RBIs.

Junior right-hander Sam Romero pitched 3 13 innings on 81 pitches. He allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits, before he was taken out for sophomore lefty Chaz Montoya who allowed a run on three hits in 1 13 innings.

It was left-hander Dellan Raish, however, who held it down for ASU.

The redshirt freshman allowed no runs on four hits in the final 4 13 innings of play, shutting out the Beavers to improve his overall record to 3-1.

Arizona State looks for its second-consecutive Pac-12 series win with senior lefty Eli Lingos expected to be on the mound Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
