When Arizona State football’s Director of Player personal Al Luginbill spoke with the local media at the beginning of June he said that the Sun Devils are still “catching up” with the Class of 2019.
Then, ASU didn’t have one recruit committed to the class. Just under three weeks later, it has five.
The latest is the second local commitment the Sun Devils have garnered under head coach Herm Edwards. Tempe Corona Del Sol wide receiver Ricky Pearsall Jr. announced via Twitter Monday his plans to continue playing football just a few miles away.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound wideout is a three-star, according to 247Sports, and the site ranks Pearsall as the 22nd-best player in Arizona and 149th among all receivers in the nation. He also held offers from Hawaii, Air Force, New Mexico State and others.
During his junior season at Corona Del Sol, the Tempe native caught 74 passes for 1,153 yards and 13 touchdowns. Those stats, though, got quite the boost on October 13. Facing off against Gilbert, Pearsall set a 6A Arizona state single-game record with 342 receiving yards — grabbing 14 catches and five touchdowns in the process, according to azcentral.
While at Nike The Opening in early May, Pearsall recorded a whopping 40-inch vertical and ran his 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds. Just a few weeks later, he got an offer from ASU.
EXTREMELY excited and happy to receive my 8th offer and my 1st PAC-12 offer from Arizona State University! Huge thank you to the ASU staff! #ForksUp pic.twitter.com/K7lYfe75z7

With his commitment Monday, the wideout joins four others from the class of 2019 to commit to the Maroon and Gold. Quarterback Ethan Long was the first to give his commitment, followed up by quarterback Joey Yellen, offensive lineman Roman DeWys and athlete Ty DeArman.
Here are Pearsall’s highlights from his junior season at Corona Del Sol:
