Another day closer to the season oepner

Things started differently on Thursday. Instead of doing their warm-up lines the Sun Devils have had for each practice they all sat and used the bands to stretch.

Last Practice: Wednesday, August 22

Next practice: Saturday, August 25 (5:00 p.m.)

Injury Update

Starting right guard Steven Miller returned to practice wearing a green jersey. He took first team reps when the offensive line did their drills before the 11-on-11 session before heading into the bubble.

In the bubble he joined wide receiver John Humphrey (out for the season with achilles), offensive lineman Zach Robertson, defensive back K.J. Jarrell, defensive lineman Nami Tuitu’i and safety Demonte King.

Linebacker Koron Crump didn’t work in the team portion of the media viewing, but did stand in with the scout team while the offensive line was going through walkthroughs. He also did drills with the linebacker group.

What went on?

Paul Lucas, who switched to the offensive side of the ball recently, got a few reps with the first team offense. Arizona State’s plan for the track runner seems to attempt to get him out in space and use his tremendous speed.

Manny Wilkins’ pocket collapsed on one play when running back Isaiah Floyd got asked to block a blitzing Merlin Robertson. If you’ve seen Floyd and Robertson next to one another you could guess how that went.

On a pass over the middle to wide receiver Ryan Newsome it looked like a simple catch. However, safety Langston Frederick had different plans knocking Newsome to the ground to force an incompletion.

The offensive tried a lot of runs to the outside on Thursday. Defensive end Jordan Hoyt did a very good job of keeping contained which forced most of the runs to be stop for little gains.

Dasmond Tautalatasi wore a very fitting undershirt as he picked a Pat Tillman jersey shirt underneath his jersey. Only fitting for the man who has taken over as the starting Tillma safety due to the injuries to Tiley Whiley (out for the season with broken ankle) and Evan Fields.

Antonio Pierce had his linebackers focus on turnovers once again. Pierce made his guys bend to the ground making sure to touch the grass before rolling them balls as if they were fumbles. He then made them read his eyes like a quarterback throwing them passes to deflect or intercept.
