Injury Update
Linebacker Tyler Johnson was not seen during the media open portion of practice. Johnson was injured during the second half of Saturday’s game against San Diego State.
Tillman safety Dasmond Tautalatasi remains out with an elbow injury sustained during the Michigan State game.
Players that were seen inside the bubble for the rest of practice included wide receiver John Humphrey, defensive back Ty Thomas and quarterback Ryan Kelley.
What went on?
ASU practiced outside on Tuesday morning, which is noteworthy because head coach Herm Edwards says he expects to practice inside the bubble at least once this week to emulate the hostile crowd noise they expect at Husky Stadium.
They won’t be able to emulate the weather they will be facing in Seattle, as the forecast for Saturday’s game shows a high temperature of 64 degrees and a 60 percent chance of rain.
ASU made another adjustment to their offensive line for Tuesday’s practice, this time moving Zach Robertson to left tackle with the first team and sliding Casey Tucker over to play left guard.
The left guard spot has been a revolving door with both Alex Loyosa and Roy Hemsley receiving playing time, but neither finding much success.
Offensive coordinator Rob Likens said that he likes to rotate different guys in at the various positions and doesn’t have a problem using six different offensive linemen and rotating them at different positions.
Running back Trelon Smith received some first team reps alongside running back Eno Benjamin as Smith continues to get his feel back after being suspended for the first two games of the season.
It was a pretty standard day of practice for ASU as they look to rebound from the loss last weekend.
The defensive linemen continued working with the sleds and fighting in the trenches. Defensive line coach Shaun Nua implored his players to play low to high and to maintain a strong base.
Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and running back Isaiah Floyd were the primary kickoff returners after wide receiver Ryan Newsome and the rest of the unit struggled with some decisions against SDSU. ASU’s special teams had preformed fairly well prior to this past Saturday.
The offense showed their commitment to running the ball as the first team offense squared off against the practice squad with Benjamin in the backfield working on opening up holes for the running back.
Likens mentioned after practice that they will be looking to establish the run against Washington and that it’s always a major focal point of their game plan.
The defensive backs were focused on swarming to the ball after the quarterback releases it, as well as playing press coverage techniques.
