The Arizona State Sun Devils (6-6-3, 0-4-2 Pac-12) are still searching for their first conference win after falling to the Colorado Buffaloes (10-4-1, 2-3-1 Pac-12) 2-1 in Boulder on Saturday afternoon.
Right out of the gates, the Buffs first goal came in the second minute of the game from Gabbi Chapa. After beating two defenders further out, Chapa went one-on-one with Sun Devils’ goalkeeper Giulia Cascapera and struck one to the back of the net.
The Sun Devils had an opportunity in the 18th minute when forward Marleen Schimmer took a shot from far out just missing the top corner.
Heading into halftime, the Sun Devils had eight shots with five of those coming from Schimmer.
Just four minutes into the second half, the Buffs went up 2-0 with a goal from freshman Tessa Barton. The assist from Chapa came off a clean pass through two defenders and set up an easy shot for Barton.
With 12 minutes left, Sun Devil Dai Williams kept the team’s hopes alive after burying one in the top right corner. Minutes later, Arizona State had a chance to tie it up when Schimmer was fouled just outside of the box and had a free kick. The shot went just wide right, keeping the Buffs up by one.
The Sun Devils return back home on Thursday for a matchup against Oregon State at 5:00 p.m.
