Jake Plummer

During halftime of Saturday’s game against the USC Trojans, the Arizona State Sun Devils will celebrate former quarterback Jake Plummer. Plummer, as announced back in January, will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Class in December alongside former Sun Devil head coach Dennis Erickson.

In his four-year career, Plummer finished high among career stat leaders. He had 8,827 career passing yards (third), 65 touchdown passes (fourth) and 8,711 yards of total offense during his career (fifth).

Plummer also earned accolades of First Team All-American and Pac-10 Player of the Year in 1996 when he helped guide the Sun Devils to the Rose Bowl. He finished third in the Heisman voting that season.

The point of this post is for the fans to share and converse about their favorite moments from Jake the Snake.

Here is what current head coach Herm Edwards said about Plummer earlier this week:

“I’ll talk about it this week. Jake has been coming out to some practices so they know who he is, obviously. It just says a lot about when you get guys like that that are involved in the program, too. He’s around it, comes to practice. I’ve coached against Jake obviously in the National Football Game and stuff of that nature. Great human being, great ambassador for ASU football and in general. Just a fantastic guy, couldn’t be happier for him.”

“A lot of young people aren’t history buffs. They’re all about the current thing that’s happening. They don’t understand the past. Well, the past has something to do with the current. You’re always standing on somebody else’s shoulders and sometimes you forget that because we’re in the now world. I want it now. I don’t care what happened in the past. Well, what happened in the past is going to have a lot to do with what’s going to happen in the future. It’ll be fun when he gets honored. It’s going to be a capacity crowd too so he’ll get a nice ovation and deservingly so too.”
