Arizona State Sun Devils’ backup quarterback Joey Yellen announced on Twitter on Monday that he has placed his name into the transfer portal:

Yellen was one of three quarterback recruits brought in by head coach Herm Edwards and staff to compete for the starting quarterback job. Along with Jayden Daniels, Ethan Long and Dillon Sterling-Cole, Yellen finished second in the competition to Daniels.
He started one game for the Sun Devils due to Daniels being injured for the USC game. Yellen finished that contest 28-for-44 for 292 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.
From Mission Viejo, California, Yellen was rated a four-star pro style quarterback and ninth at the position by 247Sports.
The announcement is not shocking with Daniels in place at starting quarterback for years to come. Yellen was absent from the Sun Devils first Sun Bowl practice on Monday and this brings clarity as to why.
It was reported last December on the early period signing day that Georgia made a last-minute attempt to swing Yellen their way after the Sun Devils had gotten Daniels. Yellen also had offers to Oregon State and Washington in terms of Power Five programs.
