The Arizona State Sun Devils have continued their Sun Bowl preparations, as they prepare to take on the Florida State Seminoles on New Years Eve.
Last Practice: Monday, December 16
Next Practice: Thursday, December 19
Injury Update
Offensive lineman Steven Miller and Ralph Frias watched practice from the sidelines as they worked on rehab. Injuries haven't been announced but the two were putting in work to get back onto the field.
Freshman safety Connor Soelle joined the two offensive lineman as he continued to work with trainers.
What Went On
New offensive coordinator Zak Hill was in attendance as Herm Edwards called over the new play caller to watch the team.
With Brandon Aiyuk and Eno Benjamin skipping the bowl game to focus on the NFL Draft, the offense still had key players to focus on. Wide receiver Kyle Williams continued to take carries as the primary running back with A.J. Carter right beside him.
The wide receiver crew stayed the same from yesterday’s practice report. They all had a chance to showcase themselves for playing time in the bowl game and next season.
Ethan Long took second team reps with Joey Yellen announcing his decision to enter the transfer portal and play elsewhere.
The first portion of individual work was focused on the running backs. With Benjamin gone, Williams and Carter shared the reps in the running game.
In portions of the individual drills, Jayden Daniels threw the ball to the tight ended and running backs in different sequences. All three tight ends: Tommy Hudson, Curtis Hodges and Nolan Matthews received reps. Williams, Carter and Demetrious Flowers took reps in the running back role.
In one session of the viewing, the wide receivers and defensive backs worked on one-on-one routes. The defensive backs didn't give up much on the deep balls and junior cornerback Jack Jones made sure the receivers knew. Jones and junior receiver Brandon Pierce chirped back and forth as Jones wanted Pierce to go against him when he was in the drill.
