ASU Football: Spring Practice Report (2/26)

Almost done.

Andrew Palla

Tuesday’s practice was the last full session before Thursday’s spring game as Wednesday’s practice will be a light walkthrough.

Last practice: Saturday, February 23

Next practice: Wednesday, February 26

Injury update:

Went in the bubble: LB Tyler Johnson, CB Dominique Harrison, LB Stanley Lambert, WR Ryan Newsome, DL Shannon Forman, DL D.J. Davidson, WR Angel Ruiz, RB Paul Lucas

What went on:

All four quarterbacks got action on Tuesday we wrote down some of their most notable plays.

Dillion Sterling-Cole started the day with the offense as they run plays without a defense in front of them. He threw a deep ball for Brandon Aiyuk, but was just a small margin out of his reach. In 11-on-11s, he threw a red zone fade to Aiyuk, but the receiver had no shot at it because it was out of bounds. Wide receiver Kyle Williams found a small space on the zone for a touchdown, which made linebacker Merlin Robertson yell, ‘nooooo.’

Sterling-Cole had two passes batted away during practice. One by the hand of defensive lineman Michael Matus on a swing pass to running back Isaiah Floyd. Cornerback Chase Lucas then knocked a pass away intended for Aiyuk.

Jayden Daniels threw a ball into the end zone for Frank Darby, but cornerback Kobe Williams made a nice play to knock it away. He threw a couple of nice passes on the move to wide receiver John Humphrey on a short out route and a dump off pass to Floyd.

Joey Yellen had Aiyuk open deep after putting a nice move on Timarcus Davis, however, the ball fell too far in front of Aiyuk. There was a defensive holding flag on the field. He also tossed a red zone touchdown to Aiyuk on a well placed ball.

Ethan Long threw a longer pass to Curtis Hodges, it was slightly behind Hodges, who made a nice adjustment in air to make the grab. He made a back shoulder pass to Aiyuk on Davis that stopped him at the one but pretty easy completion.

Other notes, Eno Benjamin didn’t participate in team plays, but worked drills with the runnings backs in one of his rest days. Mark Walton finally got action in team scrimmage with the defensive line after making the transition from tight end.
